Eric J. Beane

Eric J. Beane currently serves as the Secretary of the Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services.  Prior to his appointment as Secretary, Beane served as the Chief Operating Officer for Governor Gina Raimondo & Acting Director of the Rhode Island Department of Human Services. 

He previously served as Governor Raimondo’s Deputy Chief of Staff, where he helped develop her policy agenda on public health, public safety, and energy & environmental issues. He was instrumental in the creation of the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank, Cybersecurity Commission, and the Overdose Prevention & Intervention Task Force.

Before joining Governor Raimondo’s Administration, Eric J. Beane was Deputy Chief of Staff for Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley. He also served as Deputy Legal Counsel in the Governor’s Office. 

Earlier in his career, he worked as a Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, specializing in constitutional, national security, and administrative/regulatory law.

Beane did his undergraduate work at the University of Chicago, before earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. He also studied abroad at the London School of Economics and in China and Israel. Beane is a resident of Providence, Rhode Island.
